Kit List

Below are lists of kit that you will normally need for camps and hikes. Depending on the activity, extra items may be required or some pieces of equipment may not be allowed.

Camp List

  • Frame Rucksack to hold all your kit
  • Sleeping Bag (with stuff sack)
  • Roll Mat
  • Suitable Clothing and Footwear (preferably walking boots/old trainers)
  • Changes of Clothes (at least 1 for a one-night camp)
  • Change of Footwear
  • Waterproofs – coat and trousers
  • Wash Kit and Towel
  • Eating Stuff – Fork, Knife, Spoon, Plate, Bowl, Mug
  • Water Bottle
  • 2 old Tea Towels
  • Small Rucksack
  • First Aid Kit
  • Torch, spare batteries and bulb
  • Emergency Rations
  • Survival Bag (if you have one)
  • Pen and Paper
  • Small Sewing Set (optional)
  • Watch
  • Sun Hat, Sun Cream (seasonal)
  • Uniform and Hanger (only for longer camps)

Hike Kit List

  • Small Rucksack
  • Clothing suitable for the time of year (but not shorts)
  • Spare mid-layer eg. Fleece
  • Waterproofs
  • Water
  • Food as appropriate, eg. Lunch, Snacks
  • Watch
  • First Aid Kit
  • Emergency Rations
  • Survival Bag
  • Torch, spare batteries and bulb (Night Hikes)

Most of this kit is also required for any other outdoor activities, including those at the Firs.

Electronic equipment is generally not allowed during Scouting activities. The only notable exception is during a hike, when Patrol Leaders are allowed to have a mobile phone for emergency use only.
