Scouting 2007

One World, One Promise
2007 was Scouting's centenary year. A variety of local, national and international events were held to ensure that everyone got to take part in the celebrations.

Local Events and Join-In Centenary
The first main event of the year was the "Founder's Day Birthday Party", held in Haydon Wick during February.

In May the whole group took part in a district Centenary Camp. This was held at Roves Farm. The aim was to get everyone in UK Scouting camping on the night of 26th May.

1st August was Scouting's Sunrise. All members of Scouting, all over the world, reaffirmed their promises at 8.00am local time. Our group will attended the District Ceremony, held at Lydiard Park. After the formal proceedings a variety of fun activities were organised for the participants. Our Scout Troop also visited the Jamboree (see below) the day before, and camped at the Firs the day after.
In addition, many of the pack/troop evenings will had a 2007 theme to them, as part of the Join-In Centenary programme.

All members of the Scout Group were given 2007 scarves (the starry ones!) and there were badges that went with them. To get each badge you had to take part in Scouting's Sunrise, the Join-In Centenary Programme, the Centenary Camp, and "Bring a Friend".

International
One of the major international events was the 2007 Jamboree, held this time at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex. It was home for 40,000 Scouts from all over the world for 10 days, and they took part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Wiltshire County Contingent was made up of only 36 lucky young people who were picked out of all that applied and one of them was Jack Tindall, who was one of our Scouts before moving on to Sampson Explorers.
On the 1st August (Scouting's Sunrise), 2 participants from each country were present on Brownsea Island, the site of the first ever Scout Camp in 1907, to reaffirm their promises in an international event, along with the 21st World Scout Jamboree.

We also had our own Jamboree blog, written by the two members of the Scout Group that attended the Jamboree, Jack - a participant, and Andrew, a member of the International Service Team. A screenshot of the blog is available (~1mb).
