Upgrades Complete
Over the summer the registered users area was redeveloped so that any parents/guardians with more than one child in the Scout Group (ie Cubs/Scouts) only now need one set of login details. Thus, if you already have one child in the Group and another then joins, they will be added by the leaders to your existing account.
Parents/Guardians with more than one child in the Group already will find that one set of login details does not work. Please just use the other set instead. You can then go to the "My Details" page to verify that the relevant child/children are associated with your account.
Any other queries should be directed to your section leader in the first instance, or with technical problems directly to the webmaster (email).

Registered Area Upgrades
Registered users of the site should not use the Member area until further notice, due to essential maintenance to merge accounts. The system will be ready for use before the new academic year begins.
Parents/Guardians that currenly have two or more children in the Scout Group will be informed when all their accounts are merged into one "family" logon.

SITE UPGRADE
The site is in the middle of an upgrade. Some things may not appear as
they should. It might appear that you don't need to login for some
things any more - this is a bug, all the content, eg paperwork files is
still secure, and this will be fixed asap. There will be intermittent
downtime over the coming week.Added: 12/09/07 17:43

Are you smiling?
Are you smiling? You should be! This is the phrase of the district camp 2007, being held at the flooded Roves Farm. Almost everyone else has gone home but as we write this at just past midnight all our Scouts and Cubs are fast asleep. the forecast isn't good but we are still smiling!
Everything is safe and we will be home tomorrow.Brought to you courtesy of Jason's XDA!

Scouts Investitures and Hobbies Night
This week we invested our first two female Scouts into the Scout troop. The two girls have been coming along since January to see what Scouting is all about and decided to join! The Scout Group is now fully co-educational and can accept females in both the Cub Pack and Scout Troop. If you are interested in joining, please look at the Joining Us page.
The remainder of the evening was Hobbies Night - a chance for all the Scouts to get up and do a presentation about their Hobby to try and gain a badge. See our photo album of the evening for more details, which also includes pictures of the investitures.

Parent's Survey
From the Scout Association:
We are conducting a survey to help us understand more about what parents and carers who have children involved in Scouting know about the Scout Movement. We know that your child participates in Scout meetings and trips but are you aware of the activities they take part in, what local and national events are coming up and even how you might be able to help?
To improve your understanding, we are considering producing more information for parents and would like to hear your views on this. The survey contains all sorts of questions about you and your child, your current relationship with your child’s Scout Group and its Leaders, your relationships with other charities and your thoughts on the idea of having more information available to parents.
Please take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. If you are a parent in Scouting, please [l=http://www.nfpsynergy.net/ScoutAssociationParentInformationSurvey/]click here[el] to take the survey.

2007 Jamboree Contingent
The next World Scout Jamboree will be held in the summer of 2007. Selection for the members of the Wiltshire contingent started just after Christmas, with around 90 Scouts from all over Wiltshire vying for a place in the final line-up. They had to undertake a demanding selection weekend in February. One of our Scouts, Jack, managed to secure himself a place on the contingent. Well done Jack, and we look forward to hearing about your training as it progresses – and about the Jamboree itself in 2007!
Go to the official website of the 21st World Scout Jamboree.

Website Award!
We have recently been awarded the Platinum Web Site Award by Escouts.org.uk.
They run a scouting websites award scheme, and have levels of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. To date we are only the fifth website submitted to the scheme to achieve a Platinum award. Sites are judged on a variety of criteria including design, ease of use, content, and how well they follow headquarters guidelines.
Escouts is a national forum for anyone in Scouting to discuss various issues. They also provide free hosting to Scout Groups in the UK.

Trash Trophy 2005
We entered two teams into the "Trash Trophy", a district event run by Swindon Ridgeway. The theme this year was Space. It took place during the cold spell in November, with freezing temperatures for a lot of the day!
Teams started at the Polo Ground (next to Coate Water), then made their way to Coate Water itself for the first base. From here, they carried on around the eastern edge then out towards the motorway, crossed in shortly came to Base 2, where "Astronaut Training" took place. Next they had to navigate their way to Base 3 to build a flag pole, and then go back to Base 2 to pick up some "Moon Dust", which had to be carried back intact to the finish point.
The 4th base was on the southern edge of Coate Water, and was a teamwork exercise. A short walk further up Coate Water lead them to Base 5, where they had to avoid being sucked down a "Black Hole". After a going back through the arboreteum, they came to the last base, which was some First Aid Theory.
The teams finished back where they started at the Polo Ground. A big thank you to the organisers, who stood around all day in freezing cold temperatures to run the event!

District Cub Night Hike
During November the Cubs took part in a Night Hike organised by our district, Swindon North.
The hike took them through Stanton Fitzwarren Country Park, taking around 2 hours to complete. It was very muddy! On the way the Cubs had to memorise various badges that appeared on posts throughout the route - not easy as there were almost 30 of them!
Once they reached their finishing point at Stratton Scouts Headquarters there were refreshments, before getting back home late!

Children In Need 2005
During November the Scouts held a fundraising evening for Children In Need.
The highlight of the evening was being able to throw wet sponges at the Patrol Leaders (for a charge!), but we also had Mufti, a sweepstake and Smartie tubes filled with English Coins. Other activities during the evening included decorating Pudsey Biscuits, a raffle and assorted games.
Thanks to everyone who donated some money towards Children in Need! The sweepstake results will be out soon.

Swindon Streetwise, October 2005
During October two teams from our Scout Troop participated in Streetwise, a district event where Scouts have to travel round Swindon by bus with a variety of questions to answer. They visited many areas of Swindon, increasing their knowledge of how to get round the town in the process. All the Scouts enjoyed the event.
Thanks to Swindon Ridgeway Explorer Scouts for hosting the day.

New Website Update
Since Wednesday we've been working hard to fix the numerous bugs that - inevitably - reared their heads when we started tests in a more efficient way. The Programme sections for both Cubs and Scouts are now fully up and running, so you can now check out what you'll be doing during Term 1. In addition, the RSS Feed has had a couple of tweaks so it now picks up properly in people's viewers. We've got the latest 5 updates being streamed through this feed.
Two minor cosmetic changes have taken place - the change of header graphic, and some highlighting on the Contact Forms.
The Picture sections are yet to become fully operational; once we get an album into each section (Cubs, Scouts, General) they will function properly.

New Website
We finally went online with this new website on 7th September 2005 (16:30hrs approx). It had been in the making since June, and we are pleased to be able to offer it online at last. Please bear with us for the moment while we start to upload the first pictures and programmes - hopefully within the next couple of weeks. Until then you may well see odd error message and dates coming up - don't worry for the moment, these are expected.
We hope you enjoy the new website - it is more streamlined and better equiped to handle more content than the old version.
I'll get another update out in a couple of weeks to let you know how we're doing.
