Camp Switzerland (Jul 2010)
This year our Summer camp week end was spent at the Stroud and Tetbury Scout Headquarters. The base is a beautiful pine log cabin, hence why we decided to theme our camp on Switzerland. Sixes were named Matterhorn, Jungfrau and Eiger. Cubs enjoyed a night hike, a morning of bases - getting to know the country, language and famous facts. They had the chance to cross a glacier and also enjoyed a mini orienteering course. They made kites and flew them on the Common, some were incredible and even took off with the poor Cub running behind! On Saturday evening we enjoyed a camp fire with some VERY interesting yodelling!
We also enjoyed a feast of Swiss food - thanks to Sher Khan and Mrs Jones! We tried Swiss cheeses, pork snitzel and red cabbage, but the favourite had to be the chocolate fondue! (Absolutely Yummy!) On Sunday morning, Cubs cooked their own breakfast on open fires.
On Sunday Cubs thought about the work of 'mountain rescue' in our 'Scouts Own', and we enjoyed our own Winter Olympics, with Skiing, dancing on ice, and snow shoes and there wasn't a flake of snow to be seen!
